Pertamax Green 95: A Key Weapon in the Fight Against Pollution
The Indonesian government is taking serious steps to combat air pollution by promoting the use of low-sulfur fuels. One of the primary solutions comes from Pertamina, which provides a range of high-quality products, including Pertamax Green 95—a fuel that is not only low-sulfur but also a source of renewable energy.
Why is Low-Sulfur Fuel the Key to Combatting Air Pollution?
According to the Minister of Environment/Head of the BPLH, Hanif, fuel quality is a major contributor to air pollution, particularly in large cities. Hanif explained that nearly 90% of fuel in Indonesia has a sulfur content exceeding 1,500 ppm, which is far above the Euro IV standard of just 50 ppm.
High sulfur content correlates directly with deteriorating air quality and negative health impacts. Therefore, converting to low-sulfur fuel is a crucial step. Oil and gas practitioner Hadi Ismoyo noted that the government’s push to convert high-sulfur fuel to low-sulfur alternatives is a significant breakthrough that deserves full support.
Pertamax Green 95: Pertamina’s Renewable Energy Innovation
Amidst the dominance of high-sulfur fuels, Pertamina has introduced several products that meet low-sulfur standards. In the gasoline category, these products generally feature a high RON (Research Octane Number) of 95 or above. A standout product in this category is Pertamax Green 95.
Pertamax Green 95 serves as a dual solution:
-
Low Sulfur: It meets modern emission standards to reduce hazardous pollutants.
-
Renewable Energy: It is a blend of Pertamax (RON 92) and ethanol, making it a more environmentally friendly choice.
This innovation demonstrates Pertamina’s commitment to supporting the energy transition and creating products that not only meet international standards but also contribute to national emission targets. Other examples of low-sulfur fuels available in the Indonesian market include Pertamina DEX and Pertamax Turbo.
As explained by Hadi Ismoyo, the production of these fuels involves modifying Pertamina’s refineries to achieve the desired sulfur levels. This proves that Indonesia possesses the technical capability to produce clean energy. With Pertamax Green 95, the public now has a tangible option to participate in reducing air pollution and supporting environmental sustainability.
