Bahan bakar ini tidak hanya ramah lingkungan, namun juga terbarukan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meskipun saat ini tengah dikembangkan secara masif, ternyata biodiesel sudah ada sejak lebih dari 160 tahun yang lalu. Pada tahun 1853, E. Duffy dan J. Patrick sudah mencoba membuat biodiesel. Lalu, empat puluh tahun kemudian, Rudolf Diesel menemukan mesin diesel yang dioperasikan dengan biodiesel berbahan baku minyak dari kacang tanah.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kini, biodiesel dapat diproduksi dari berbagai bahan baku. Salah satu bahan baku utama yang paling produktif dalam pembuatan biodiesel di Indonesia adalah minyak sawit. Bayangkan, 1 hektare tanaman sawit mampu menghasilkan 3,5 ton minyak nabati. Biodiesel juga dapat diproduksi menggunakan berbagai metode, salah satunya adalah dengan metode transesterifikasi. Beginilah prosesnya:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Pemurnian<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pada proses ini, minyak sawit mentah\/<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Crude Palm Oil<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (CPO) dimurnikan, diputihkan, dan dihilangkan baunya menjadi apa yang disebut dengan <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Refined, Bleached and Deodorized Palm Oil<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (RBDPO).<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Transesterifikasi<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dengan teknik ini, RBDPO dicampur dengan metanol dan <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sodium methylate <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pada suhu 65-75\u00b0C. Hasil campuran ini didiamkan selama 1-2 jam hingga endapan metil ester asam lemak (Fatty Acid Methyl Ester\/FAME) dan gliserin terpisah dengan sendirinya.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Pencucian<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pada tahap ini, FAME melewati proses pencucian menggunakan air bersuhu 65-75\u00b0C dan pH 4-6 untuk menghilangkan senyawa yang bisa memengaruhi kualitasnya.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Pengeringan<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pengeringan merupakan proses untuk meningkatkan kualitas biodiesel. Pada tahap ini, air dikeringkan melalui proses pemanasan di suhu 130 \u00b0C selama 10 menit.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Penyaringan<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tahapan akhir dari metode ini, biodiesel akan melewati proses penyaringan untuk menghilangkan partikel atau molekul kotor. Biodiesel yang memiliki kualitas baik siap didistribusikan dan digunakan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nah, sekarang sudah tahu kalau biodiesel ini melewati berbagai tahapan pembuatan yang sangat memperhatikan kualitasnya sebelum kita dapat menggunakannya sebagai sumber energi alternatif. Kita cukup beruntung karena memiliki bahan baku yang melimpah dan selalu bisa diperbarui atau ditanam lagi sehingga bahan bakar ramah lingkungan ini berkelanjutan dan bisa terus diproduksi. Sudah saatnya kita beralih ke pilihan bahan bakar yang lebih rendah polusi dan emisi.
