Sejak tahun 1950, permintaan energi secara global telah meningkat tiga kali lipat, mencapai sekitar 10.000 juta ton per tahun. Mayoritas energi yang digunakan saat ini berasal dari sumber-sumber yang tidak terbarukan, seperti batubara, gas, minyak bumi, dan energi nuklir. Penggunaan terus-menerus sumber energi tidak terbarukan ini dapat mengakibatkan kehabisan, sehingga penting untuk mencari alternatif energi terbarukan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Menurut laporan dari Pusat Studi Energi Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), potensi energi terbarukan berasal dari sumber-sumber alamiah seperti sinar matahari, angin, hujan, geothermal, dan biomassa. Beberapa potensi energi terbarukan yang dapat ditemukan di Indonesia meliputi angin, geothermal, hidro, surya, dan biomassa.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Angin<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Angin adalah sumber energi terbarukan yang sangat melimpah di seluruh dunia. Menurut Ditjen Listrik dan Pemanfaatan Energi pada tahun 2009, potensi energi angin di Indonesia mencapai 9290 MW.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Geothermal<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Geothermal atau panas bumi didapatkan dari panas bumi. Di dunia, termasuk Indonesia, geothermal dianggap sebagai energi yang menjanjikan. Potensi geothermal Indonesia diperkirakan mencapai 27.000 MW.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Menurut Himpunan Mahasiswa Teknik Perminyakan ITB, geothermal merupakan salah satu energi alternatif yang potensial dikembangkan di Indonesia berkat letak geografisnya yang terletak pada cincin api. Aktivitas tektonik ini menciptakan sumber panas berupa magma di bawah beberapa pulau di Indonesia.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Hidro<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sumber energi terbarukan air meliputi aliran sungai, air terjun, dan pasang surut air laut. Hidro merupakan sumber energi terbarukan yang melimpah di Indonesia. Potensi Hydropower Indonesia mencapai 4,99 x 10^18 J\/tahun menurut Ditjen Listrik dan Pemanfaatan Energi pada tahun 2009. Potensi hidro Indonesia mencapai 4,99 x 1018 J\/tahun.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Surya<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Energi surya didapat dari matahari dalam bentuk radiasi. Wilayah Nusa Tenggara di Indonesia memiliki intensitas matahari yang baik, khususnya di Pulau Sumba dan Timor.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Biomassa<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Biomassa merupakan bahan bakar utama di pedesaan untuk pemanasan dan memasak. Bioenergi, yang dihasilkan dari biomassa, meliputi biogas, biofuel cair, dan biofuel padat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Energi biomassa lebih potensial dikembangkan di wilayah pedesaan karena bahan bakarnya lebih mudah didapat.
