Oleh karena itu, pengelolaan limbah cair kelapa sawit atau <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">palm oil mill effluent<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (POME) menjadi aspek krusial yang perlu diperhatikan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rizaldi Boer, Kepala International Research Institute for Environment and Climate Change dari Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB), menekankan pentingnya pengelolaan limbah yang efektif. &#8220;Melalui pengelolaan limbah yang lebih baik, efisiensi energi, perlindungan hutan, serta restorasi lahan gambut, sektor ini dapat mengurangi emisi dalam jumlah signifikan,&#8221; ungkapnya dalam International Conference on Oil Palm and Environment (ICOPE) Series 2025 Day 3 di Bali Beach Convention, Bali.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Komitmen Indonesia untuk menurunkan emisi gas rumah kaca sebesar 31,89% pada tahun 2030 menempatkan sektor perkebunan sawit sebagai kontributor penting dalam upaya pencapaian target tersebut. Namun, di sisi lain, emisi yang dihasilkan dari industri sawit mencapai 143 juta ton CO\u00b2 per tahun, yang menyumbang hampir 19% dari total emisi nasional.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Limbah cair dari proses pengolahan kelapa sawit menjadi salah satu sumber emisi utama. Namun, Rizaldi Boer meyakini bahwa teknologi modern dapat membantu mengatasi permasalahan ini. &#8220;Dengan teknologi seperti evaporasi, emisi dari POME dapat dikurangi hingga 90-95%,&#8221; tambahnya.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Selain mengurangi emisi, pengelolaan limbah yang efektif juga dapat menghasilkan produk bernilai tambah. Limbah padat kelapa sawit dapat diolah menjadi biochar, yang memiliki potensi untuk menyerap hingga 1,2 juta ton CO\u00b2. &#8220;Potensi produksi biochar mencapai 583 juta ton, memberikan manfaat besar bagi tanah,&#8221; jelas Rizaldi.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shahrakbah Yacob, Vice President Sime Darby Guthrie, menyoroti manfaat lain dari limbah kelapa sawit. &#8220;Limbah itu sangat penting karena dapat digunakan sebagai suplemen dan pupuk, meningkatkan kadar karbon organik di tanah dan membantu mempertahankan kelembaban,&#8221; tuturnya.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Peran APROBI dalam Pengelolaan Limbah Kelapa Sawit yang Berkelanjutan<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sebagai asosiasi yang mewadahi produsen biofuel di Indonesia, APROBI memiliki peran penting dalam mendorong pengelolaan limbah kelapa sawit yang berkelanjutan. APROBI dapat:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mendorong penerapan teknologi modern dalam pengelolaan limbah POME.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Memfasilitasi pertukaran informasi dan praktik terbaik antaranggota terkait pengelolaan limbah.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bekerja sama dengan lembaga penelitian dan pemerintah dalam pengembangan teknologi pengelolaan limbah yang inovatif.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat tentang pentingnya pengelolaan limbah sawit yang berkelanjutan.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Indonesia memiliki potensi besar dalam mendukung upaya mitigasi emisi gas rumah kaca melalui pengelolaan limbah yang optimal. Penerapan teknologi modern dan praktik berkelanjutan dalam pengelolaan limbah POME tidak hanya dapat mengurangi emisi, tetapi juga menghasilkan produk bernilai tambah dan memberikan manfaat bagi lingkungan dan masyarakat.
