Selain itu, perkebunan kelapa sawit juga berpotensi untuk menghasilkan biofuel generasi ketiga, yang berasal dari alga.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Limbah Sawit sebagai Sumber Biofuel Generasi Ketiga<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Potensi ini didukung oleh fakta bahwa dalam proses pengolahan kelapa sawit, sekitar 60-70% akan menghasilkan limbah, terutama limbah cair POME (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">palm oil mill effluent<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). POME merupakan jenis limbah dengan volume terbesar dibandingkan limbah kelapa sawit lainnya. Ketersediaan POME yang melimpah ini dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai media kultivasi alga, yang merupakan sumber utama biofuel generasi ketiga.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PASPI (2019) dalam jurnal berjudul &#8220;Kebun Sawit Indonesia: Lumbung Energi Mix Terbarukan&#8221; memaparkan bahwa berbagai studi empiris menunjukkan limbah POME dapat dijadikan sebagai media pertumbuhan alga, sekaligus menurunkan kadar BOD (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">biological oxygen demand<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) dan COD (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">chemical oxygen demand<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) dari limbah tersebut.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Nutrisi POME untuk Pertumbuhan Alga yang Optimal<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Menurut Sukumaran et al. (2014), POME mengandung nutrisi penting yang dibutuhkan alga untuk pertumbuhannya. Oleh karena itu, pemanfaatan POME sebagai media kultivasi alga merupakan pilihan yang ekonomis dan mudah diperoleh, mengingat ketersediaannya yang melimpah di Indonesia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meskipun POME mengandung nutrisi yang dibutuhkan alga, pertumbuhan alga yang optimal dapat dicapai dengan variasi perbandingan volume POME dan alga 1:3, serta penambahan nutrisi berupa NaHCO3 dan urea (Yonas et al., 2012).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Pengolahan POME untuk Kultivasi Alga yang Efisien<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kadar COD yang tinggi dan warna gelap POME akibat <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tannic acid<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> dapat diatasi dengan proses terintegrasi, yaitu pengolahan anaerobik POME untuk menurunkan kadar COD dan BOD serta menghasilkan metana, sedangkan limbah sisa nutrisi digunakan sebagai media kultivasi alga (Nur &amp; Hadiyanto, 2013). Selain itu, metode <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mixotrophic condition<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> juga dapat digunakan untuk memanfaatkan POME sebagai media alga penghasil biofuel (Nur &amp; Hadiyanto, 2015).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Potensi Alga sebagai Sumber Biofuel Generasi Ketiga<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alga sebagai sumber biofuel generasi ketiga memiliki kemampuan menghasilkan energi yang lebih besar dibandingkan sumber energi terbarukan lainnya. Studi Chisti (2007) menunjukkan alga mampu menghasilkan <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">yield<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> minyak terbesar, yaitu 136.900 liter per 2 hektar lahan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Produksi alga juga jauh lebih cepat dibandingkan komoditas lain, dengan biomassa yang dapat berlipat ganda setiap 24 jam (Hadiyanto &amp; Azim, 2012). Hal ini menjadikan alga sebagai sumber biofuel yang sangat potensial untuk mencapai ketahanan energi.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Teknologi Ekstraksi Minyak dari Alga<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pada skala industri komersial, pemanenan biomassa alga terbaik dapat mencapai 5 gram bahan kering per liter (Amini &amp; Susilowati, 2010). Hasil minyak yang diperoleh dari alga bervariasi tergantung metode ekstraksi yang digunakan, seperti metode mekanik (70%), pelarut kimia (95%), dan <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">supercritical fluid extraction<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (100%).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Menurut Zuhdi (2003), alga mampu menghasilkan biodiesel sekitar 4,4-5,87 kg dari 10 kg bahan kering alga. Pertumbuhan alga yang relatif cepat dibandingkan sumber biodiesel lainnya menjadikan alga sebagai sumber biofuel generasi ketiga yang unggul.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Perkebunan Sawit sebagai Lumbung Energi Mix Berkelanjutan<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dengan potensi alga yang besar dan ketersediaan POME yang melimpah, perkebunan kelapa sawit dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai lumbung energi campuran berkelanjutan. Perkebunan tersebut dapat menghasilkan berbagai jenis biofuel seperti biodiesel, bioetanol, biogas, diesel hijau, bensin hijau, dan avtur hijau (PASPI, 2019). Energi berkelanjutan ini dapat menjadi alternatif pengganti energi fosil.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perkebunan kelapa sawit memiliki potensi besar sebagai lumbung energi campuran berkelanjutan dan sumber biofuel generasi ketiga. Pemanfaatan limbah POME sebagai media kultivasi alga merupakan solusi inovatif untuk menghasilkan energi terbarukan yang ramah lingkungan dan berkelanjutan.
