B40 Performance: The New Standard for Industrial Engine Reliability in Indonesia’s Energy Self-Sufficiency Era
Entering the first month of 2026, the enthusiasm for national energy independence is becoming increasingly tangible. While debates over biodiesel have historically centered on stock availability and pricing, the focus has now shifted to a far more crucial aspect of economic sustainability: operational reliability. In response to this need, PT Pertamina Patra Niaga has taken a strategic step by launching Biosolar B40 Performance (B40PF), a high-quality biofuel innovation designed to be the backbone of the nation’s industrial sector.
Officially introduced on December 22, 2025, and first distributed in the Southern Sumatra (Sumbagsel) region on January 26, 2026, B40PF serves as the solution to industrial players’ concerns regarding engine performance when using higher biofuel blends.
Pertatec Formula: An Advanced Shield for Industrial Engines
Unlike conventional biodiesel products, Biosolar B40 Performance carries a more advanced technological DNA. One of its standout features is the Pertatec Formula. This formula is not merely an additive but a technical solution designed to maintain the total cleanliness of the fuel system.
In industrial operations that run 24/7, engine deposits or grime are the primary enemies. B40PF operates with three main functions:
-
Injector Cleaning: Ensuring injector holes remain clear so that fuel atomization remains perfect.
-
Oxidation Stability: Reducing the risk of fuel filter clogging, which is often a hurdle for standard-quality biodiesel if stored for long periods.
-
Rust Protection: Providing a protective layer on metallic engine components to prevent corrosion caused by the natural hygroscopic (water-absorbing) properties of bio-components.
B40 Performance: Reducing Power Loss, Increasing Profit
For the industrial sector, every second of operational downtime translates to material loss. Erwin Dwiyanto, Executive General Manager of Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Sumbagsel, emphasized that the development of B40PF stems from real consumer needs.
“Biosolar B40 Performance is designed to keep injectors clean and suppress the tendency for filter clogging. Compared to conventional B40, this product can reduce potential power loss and smooth out fuel flow,” Erwin stated.
By reducing the potential for power loss, industrial engines can operate at peak efficiency. This not only extends the lifetime cycle of engine components but also reduces the frequency of expensive routine maintenance. In the long term, using B40PF is a strategic investment for companies to maintain production stability amidst national energy self-sufficiency targets.
Real-World Implementation in Southern Sumatra
Southern Sumatra (Sumbagsel) became one of the first strategic regions to benefit from this product. Through a business-to-business (B2B) scheme, Pertamina Patra Niaga delivered the first supplies to registered industrial consumers in late January 2026.
Frilo Fitrasali Hutagalung, Region Manager of Corporate Sales for Sumbagsel, added that the value-add of B40PF lies in its ability to support operational continuity without compromise. Before being released to the market, the product passed rigorous laboratory testing and field trials to ensure its performance aligns with the promised technical claims.
Supporting Emission Targets and Energy Sovereignty
The launch of B40PF is also aligned with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) achievements, which aim to reduce emissions by 38.88 million tons of CO2 equivalent through the biodiesel program. With higher-quality fuel, combustion inside the engine becomes more complete, automatically lowering exhaust emissions from factory chimneys and heavy industrial machinery.
This move by Pertamina proves that the energy transition does not have to sacrifice performance. On the contrary, with the right touch of technology and research, homegrown biofuels can outperform pure fossil fuels in terms of engine protection.
Biosolar B40 Performance is tangible proof that Indonesia is ready to step up. Not only are we capable of producing biofuels in massive volumes, but we have also succeeded in formulating that fuel into a world-class product capable of meeting the toughest technical challenges of the industry.
