Palm oil nowadays has often become the most popular agricultural commodity in Indonesia. This statement is quite reasonable, as the palm oil commodity has become the largest agricultural export for Indonesia. It is recorded by the data that in the last at least 20 years, the palm oil plantation has grown rapidly from 2.9 million hectares to 16.3 million hectares in 2020. We can imagine how rapidly in the last 23 years, the palm oil plantation has expanded as much as 13.4 million hectares, wherein on average it expanded more than half-million hectares per year.

The sign of the rapid expansion of palm oil plantations has surely generated a great contribution to the country’s income. However, the expansion of palm oil plantations today has gone through various challenges. Once Indonesia was accused of damaging the forest as the palm oil plantation kept expanding, as this statement is completely not true.

APROBI is formed by various palm oil planting companies, with different backgrounds. However, these different backgrounds of companies have been committed to having integrity and credibility in protecting the environment when producing crude palm oil (CPO). This evidence shows that APROBI is committed to protecting the environment as the demand for biodiesel fuel keeps increasing from time to time.

The increasing demand for biodiesel is very relevant, as some researchers have proven that biodiesel is better than conventional solar fuel in terms of releasing gas emissions. One research by the European Commission in 2013 reported the effectiveness of biodiesel that was produced by palm oil factories with methane capture may result in reducing the emission as far as 62%.

The European Commission has also investigated the effectiveness of bioethanol fuel, where they reported that it has also affected in reducing the gas emission as much as 40% to 60%, depending on the main composition of the bioethanol fuel. Therefore, this research has reported facts that biodiesel has a significant effect in reducing gas emissions for the better future of our environment. It is also shown that although bioethanol has the same effect in reducing gas emission. However, biodiesel fuel still had higher effectiveness compared to bioethanol in reducing gas emissions.
